This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

Mother Dearest
Made me wear shorts until the age of 11, because they were cheaper. Including the winter.

Having your exposed little legs attracting the attention of every snowball in the playground is funny for maybe everyone else.

Having to walk like a robot because your legs are so cold you can't bend your knees, whilst crying because of the chillblains, less so.

Snow is meant to be fun :(

I must be of the same generation or older
as I remember boys wearing shorts until well older than 11, through the first couple of years at secondary scool.

Are you me?
God, those snowballs hurt, didn't they? Must explain why my legs are now so hairy - trying to protect themselves from the early years.

I went to a Public School
where we had to wear shorts all year round for the first two years - a) it toughened you up a lot a, b) knees are cheaper and heal better than trousers when you play football at lunchtime.

If you went to a comprehensive/school where the other kids didn't dress like this, however, then you are definitely being marked as a target....
