This is a question Tightwads

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

Did I dream it...
Or was there one stage in 1995 or 6 when Asda was selling beans at -1p a tin?

No need to worry
I remember that too. Their bread was more expensive though. And Asda (remember "Dales") was miles away and the price of the bus fare negated this tangible benefit.

We were bored (and engineers)

I was nowhere near an Asda
But I did have a friend whose grandfather got... oh, hang on. I have a proper QotW answer brewing here...
