A fella I know takes the batteries out of his clocks when he goes on holiday.

i do this
not with clocks, but the batteries in my cordless mouse at home. When the computer is not on, or I'm not using it for a while, out comes a battery. At work it's not necessary, cause it has an off-switch

Have a click. Has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard of.

It fits perfectly with the spirit of the question: going out of one's way to be miserly, even when the financial benefits are so tiny as to be unnoticable.
