This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

look after the pennies...
so the saying goes, and the pounds will look after themselves.

a few years ago, i get fed up of carrying loads of coins around, so i decided only to carry pound coins around, and to keep a stash of everything else, which i'd unload from my pockets every evening once home. as you're still carrying around pound coins, you really don't notice the missing few coppers etc.

at the end of the year, i decided to put the results towards xmas pressies, and was pretty damn surprised to find i'd squirrelled away nearly £100! nicely paying for most of my xmas that year. :)

i still do it, and although i mostly pay for things by debit card now, i still reckon i've saved about £50 this year, which will help :)

try it, you'll be amazed how much you save, and how little you'll miss those coins.

woo 1st post! :) apologies for length.

I do the same
but save it for taking the missus out and her birthday present. If she knew it was a year of loose change I'm sure she would think I'm a cheapskate, but it works out to be a nice birthday for her.

debit card
If you have a lloyds debit card you can open a save the change account.

If you spend 99p it puts the penny into your savings account.

So far this year I've banked almost £200 and never noticed it going up.

I do the same,
but I rarely muster the motivation to take 'em to the bank.

As a result, I have about 15 kilos of pfennigs in my cupboard that went the way of the dodo when the euro arrived. There's easily 100 quid's worth in there.

I plan to glue them to a table or something, but there's that motivation problem again...

Me too.
Got the kids to count up all the 1's 2's 5's and 20's that I generally ditch into a large bowl every evening.

£411 of your finest change. Result.

I do exactly the same
and about 10 minutes ago when we all put £5 into the house kitty I just unloaded a load of coppers. Got £20+ in a month
