When you're unblocking a sink, never empty the water from the u-bend into the sink above your head.
You do this only once - you'd think :-S

the trap under my sink has the little nozzles for the dishwasher/washing machine etc.
they weren't attached when I drained something into the sink...
horrible, fatty, bacon water everywhere....
