Inspirational or a waste of precious slacking-off time? I once went on a buzzword bingo-laden training course which ended up with my being held at gunpoint in public. Could have gone better, to be honest. Tell us your tales from either side of the lectern

For some reason, I was sent on a day long deaf awareness course. The chap running the course was both completely deaf and very, very hot.I am very, very nervous around hot men and so started rambling about various crap at him, including how naff my Black Country accent is...
His translator kindly pointed out that as he had been born deaf he had never heard a Black Country accent. Or indeed any accent.
I burst in to flames.

It's polite to call it Africa, these days. Or Efrica, if you must do the accent.

I once had a conversation with a Russin client, that went roughly:
Me: 'Hey Oleg, where'd you learn to speak such good English?'
Him: 'From a book'
Me: 'Yeah, funny. But how come you've got such a srtong American accent?'
Him: 'It was an American book'.

you've never been to the Black Country. Call anyone from there a Brummie and you'll soon be put right. Mind you, you won't be able to understand what they're saying so it's a bit academic. Bostin', etc.

although Deaf people may not 'hear' accents, they can sometimes tell where someone is from due to the different mouth patterns of different accents, especially if they are already familiar with the 'accent'. So you rambling on about yours wasn't *that* silly :D

Although I probably shouldn't be allowed to talk to deaf people again. Or any people come to think of it.
