I've had a wee think about this one
I don’t think I have any single possession I feel that way about.

I do have nice things, old letters and cards. My sons first lock of hair from his first haircut. Silly things like a big HD telly, nice car, Rolf Harris’s wee Rolferoo autograph.

My wife and child are everything to me but clearly not a material possession.

But my memories - well that’s a different thing. The moment I met my beautiful wife 11.50pm 24 Dec 1988. She was wearing a black dress and flashing me looks with the most dangerous smouldering eyes I have ever seen.

The day my son was born. They day my uncle died of multiple organ failure through alcoholism. Writing a letter to my father 10 years ago telling him I could take his abuse no more. Good, bad - all memories that make my life what it is.

Mrs Spimf has over the last decade watched her poor old mum slowly lose her identity, her mind and her memories - all through Alzheimer’s. Which is the most lingering spiteful and humiliating way to go out of this world.

So if I can’t have my memories I don’t really want anything else.

And you're spot on about memories. It's what makes us who we are today, through all the good times and all the crap.
What doen't kill you makes you stonger etc.

I don't have anything physical that I would throw myself back in to a burning building to retrieve, but I completely agree with you on the memories front.
There is one photo of myself and my ex, Anastassia, taken at my parents' house on Christmas Day 2002 that I would hate to lose. She was beautiful, kind and funny and that was possibly the happiest I've ever been in my life.
