This is a question My most treasured possession

What's your most treasured possession? What would you rescue from a fire (be it for sentimental or purely financial reasons)?

My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Either that or my Grandfather's swords.

Folios
The night before I have a folio due in, I would do anything to save it so I could hand it in.

I'm sure the uni would accept fire as a reason for not handing it in, but I would be destroyed if they got damaged.

Yeah, I totally agree
Even if you got extra time, having to do it all agian would be soul-destroying.

Ha
Sometimes doing them the first time can be soul destroying enough.

Take the one I did yesterday for example.

Soul = suitably destroyed.

Do animals
Hate you now then?
Or will it grow back?

They may well
I will find out when I venture outside today. Or I could go and stick my hand in the fish tank and see what happens.

Hopefully it will come back with a reasonably decent amount of sleep tonight.

I suppose that's what I get for doing the whole folio in a day.

Yeah... Silly boy!
I managed to do a 3000-word essay on "the immune system and how it responds to parasites within the body" (simplified title), in two hours.

Never used so many huge chunks of cited quotations in an essay before...

I applaud you
That is a fairly impressive accomplishment.

I remember in first year when I had to rewrite my 4,500 word logbook in an evening, because they told me a day before it was due that it was written in the wrong tense or something stupid like that.

Was a pretty fun night.

Ha! I'm no different
I was up until late the other night marking portfolios because I'd left them all to the last few days before the deadline.

So I'm on the other side of the fence and I *still* don't plan well in advance.

^
what chickenlady said!
Plus, I'm so mean as a lecturer that I'd demand a written report from the fire brigade (or equivalent media coverage) before you got to use the "my assignment burned" excuse.

Flashback...
The night before my incredibly interesting thesis on the intestinal parasites of the Lesser Spotted Dogfish was due in, I was in the computer lab, final draft ready to print, binder ready, all the graphs and illustrations ready, when.........'Beep'. Gone.

Wordstar. Nuff said.

(This was the early 90's and the rickety 'pooters had a habit of doing this).

*Shriek of anguish*

*Pointless prodding of random keys*

Backup, backup, found it!

Oh.

*Second shriek of anguish*

Hard copy? A pile of handwritten notes and amendments.

*Whimper*

Eleven hours later, after one of the most sweary nights ever recorded in Western History, I had re-typed the whole sodding thing. Thank you, ludicrous amounts of caffiene.
