The Capybaraof south america was classified as a fish.
Spanish missionaries found it and wanted to classify it as a fish as it spent most of its time in the water. It was also at the time when people weren't allowed to eat meat during lent, and they were too lame to actually catch proper fish.
A decree from the Vatican made it a fish and it is now a Venezuelan delicacy!
