Bamboo can grow 3 feet in 24 hoursEdit: The Japanese used this to rather unpleasant effect during World War Two. They would cut the bamboo down to ground level, then tie a prisoner of war down to the ground. A slow, painful death would ensue as the bamboo gradually grew into the unfortunate person's body.
