This is a question Waste of money

I once paid a small fortune to a solicitor in a legal case. She got lost on the way to court, turned up late with the wrong papers and started an argument with the judge, who told her to "shut up, for the love of God". A stunning investment.

Thanks to golddust for the suggestion

Two Words:
Games Workshop.

As I put the finishing touches to my third 40K army, I'm inclined to agree.
Lets not even start on the hundred or so Black Library books, seventy paints, three PC games...
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:10, closed)
Indeed!...
...I gave up 40k when I discovered I had no friends that play and the realisation that it was going to take me 26 years to paint all those fucking gretchin.

15 years later the painting is still alluring, and every now and then I splash out on a ridiculously priced bit of plastic that will at best look like a window licker has attacked it with squirty poster paints.

hahahahahahaha
Yes, I used to spend way too much money in there on Warhammer 40K when I was at school.

I called into one the other day in Edinburgh for nostalgia purposes and I couldn't get over the prices....£17 for ONE metal special character miniature! When I was buying them it was £5 and even then that was steep.

I wish Pokemon had put them out of business.

SEVENTEEN QUID!!?!!
Last time I looked it was nine, and that was gigantic enough of a markup to put me off even thinking about going back. Are you sure you weren't looking at the tanks?
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:11, closed)
That's what I said.
Then I had a MASSIVE relapse with about eight friends.

Fucksticks.

Still, the new plastic kits are incredibly detailed...

I will never set foot in another GW as long as I live.

Good call
Now D&D 4th edition on the other hand, that I can get behind.
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 17:13, closed)
I replased too
I thought, "I never really got to play this as a kid, but I can afford to now! And I have several friends who are playing!"

It turns out that while the WH40K Universe is awesome, fucking around with the figures and tape measures and line-of-sight just annoys me. It would be much better implemented as a computer game (TURN-BASED, bitches, not the RTS ones they've put out).
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 17:11, closed)
No, I had to ask the assistant if the price was correct I was that stunned
and as always he was a fucking pompous arrogant, goatee'd twat who probably has posters of Chyna from WWE wrestling on his wall.

He tried to point out that it was reasonable for such an 'engaging hobby'. I pointed out it was for children and not as engaging as conversation with real people and subjects.

It was I believe some leader of an army, you know the actual commanders, huge miniature and lots of details but he was in a blister pack at £17

you could just buy a load of chess sets
and play with those. You could claim they are warriors from the parallel dimension of Chessaxia or something.
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:40, closed)
^^this
Put that into a book, market it right and you could have the Games Workshop MkII

I did once wonder
if traditional playing cards originally came in random packets of five, and you had to trade them with your friends to get a full deck.

hahahahahaha
You just reminded me of the Garbage Pail Kids, another waster of money.

Now i realise why my mum hated buying my Paninni sticker albums etc

Just built a kustom Battlewagon...

Hang on. Can we get some girls in this thread? I think what I'm about to say will make their pants fall off in admiration.

...out of bits of Leman Russ AND extra sprues.

Oh yeah. I'm the daddy. Form an orderly queue, ladies!

Ah now, it's not like the customers have wives or girlfriends to spend their money on.

I went in the other week to get some silver paint
and I was served by a girl

with breasts and everything

after I'd made mine wait outside in case she confused/aroused the people in there
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:41, closed)
That's nothing
I get served by girls all the time.

Lies!
The only boobs inside a staff shirt in GW belong to the men old enough to have drunk enough beer to grow them!
(, Sat 2 Oct 2010, 8:31, closed)
Terrifyingly enough
it often seems like they do. I think the rate of female uptake of Games Workshop has rocketed. Either that or female standards have gone in the other direction just as sharply.
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:57, closed)
Heh
I've always liked W40K but never spent a penny on it. It's amazing how one can get their jollies from a computer game that was lent to me by my far geekier cousin.
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 16:43, closed)
Gah
the danger of a relapse in adulthood is the hugely increased disposable income you can throw away on GW stuff - really not something I want to revisit as I was a huge fan of the WH40K stuff, and I'd probably win a divorce.
(, Thu 30 Sep 2010, 17:32, closed)
If you think GW stuff is bad...

Hmmmmmmmm
Reeeesssiiinnn....

All the stuff i've bought in the past 4 years has been off Ebay. Ridiculous savings to be had by all. And soooooooo many bits and pieces to put in mah bitzs box.

I have one friend that plays it. In a third of the time that I've been collecting one army [Space Puppies] he's built up a guard army, tau army, and a dark angels army.

I've masted the art of painting the puppies to a decent standard but i'd like the luxury of having a paint station set up ready to go all the time, instead of taking 20 minutes pulling everything out.

Crux Terminatus, left shoulder.

Certainly a testament to how difficult it is to take a picture of your own shoulder.

(, Fri 1 Oct 2010, 16:07, closed)
Ooooh!
That is VERY cool! :) I've been planning to get a Skaven tattoo for ages (having been a Skaven collector for about ten years!) Probably going for a symbol of the Horned Rat on the inside of my right arm.
(, Sat 2 Oct 2010, 8:29, closed)
Oh Gawwwwwd
Not this again! D: Yeah, I have spent WAY too much money on figures I have bought but have never painted, army books and lists which I have wanted to build but have never gotten around to doing, novels I haven't read, paints which linger in my drawers, unopened...
(, Sat 2 Oct 2010, 8:28, closed)
You keep paint in your drawers?
You might wanna see a doc about that...
