so i sit weeping as my bank balance decreases and myriad employers reject my applications.

Lucky devil.
Most places I apply for don't even bother sending rejection letters/emails/phone calls/carrier pigeons.
I think it's just damn rude.

Agreed.
If you spend hours researching a company and writing a covering letter then they can take 20 seconds to email you a templated note of rejection.

i don't think i'd mind rejection letters
if they came on carrier pigeons. or rejection anything, eg 'you are dumped' in tiny writing, attatched to the leg of a pigeon. at least it's an anecdote!
