This is a question Workplace Boredom

There's got to be more to your working day than loafing around the internet, says tfi049113. How do you fill those long, empty desperate hours?

Evidence
The Thompson's Local Directory for Bristol used to list, amongst "Community Help", the "British Dyxlesia Association"

For many years, all Yellow Pages contained "Boring - see Civil Engineers"

Both evidence, I think, of someone with nothing to do one afternoon ...

I stumbled across the Yellow Pages entry for Boring
while looking for something else beginning with B. I told my brother, at the time working as IT Support for an office of Civil Engineers while studying to become one. He got out his Yellow Pages, photocopied the relevant page and put it on their noticeboard. They then started passing the information on to their fellow Civ Engs.

That was 15 years ago. Every so often someone tells me about it, and I like to think I first publicised it.

Years too late
I studied mechanical engineering from 1982 - 5. The relevant entry from the Yellow Pages was always on display on the departmental notice board - every so often a civil engineer would notice and remove it, only for a mechanical, electrical or chemical engineer to replace it within, ooh, ten minutes or so.

To be fair, though, civil engineers are intensely boring. Not too quick on the uptake, either, since the posted section normally lasted about two weeks between removal/replacements.

Also in the Bristol directory
about 8/9 years ago was (under farmers/farming) a Farmer Giles.

Fuck me did he get some stick for that...
