"You're doing it wrong"
Chthonic confesses: "Only last year did I discover why the lids of things in tubes have a recessed pointy bit built into them." Tell us about the facepalm moment when you realised you were doing something wrong.

It'll be fine
And you will not lose money if you live in it! Don't look at it as an investment but as where you live.

Good advice that..
If you don't look at it that way you will slowly go mental. I too brought my house in 2007 and consider it my home a lot more than an investment. I probably won't be able to move for another ten years, so i just try and make the best of what I have by doing the place up. In ten years the market should have picked up and look on the bright side, at least you didn't buy to let.

I bought my place three months before the US market crashed.
I now have to eat cardboard with catchup just to not lose the insane amount of money I put down on it. Meanwhile, the neighbors have new cars, a jetski and a boat, are a year behind on payments and have got a government modification on their loan. I'm told I'm not "diverse" enough and the program was meant for those on hard times (did I mention they both work and live NEXT DOOR?)
