I think it's a bit of an inflammatory story
she went to a country with ridiculous laws. She breaks one. The punishment for this is flogging. How is she so surprised? Why is the world treating this as news? Yes, it's quite an extreme punishment for naming a teddy bear. But it's a stupid bloody religion and I'm sure she was aware of it's many intricacies before she went out there.

On paper, it's one of the world's most sensible religions.
It's the way governments put it into practise that's bloody stupid.

what annoys me most is that people are getting sensitive about her getting flogged
but many Islamic women have been flogged for much less, undoubtedly, and no-one turned it into a news story.

Indeed.
It's also a further shame because those many Islamic women probably had no choice in where they reside.

It's the Islamic girls who are flogged, executed and imprisoned for the crime of being raped that I have more sympathy for.

Wait.
I'm not saying in any way that she deserves it, or shouldn't have gone there if she didn't want flogged.
People knowing there are tyrannical laws before breaking them, even if it's on purpose, doesn't make tyrannical laws all right.

Oh no, it's a hideous way to punish a crime.
I agree completely there.

I sort of see your point.
You would think that if you're in a country like that, you'd be damn careful about such things.
Still very unfair on her though.
(, Wed 28 Nov 2007, 15:48, archived)
It's unfair on everyone who has to receive that treatment.

Agreed.
Those laws are ridiculous and barbaric.
