The ending is hampered by
erm... H.G.Well's ending, to be honest. Plus, the family story ending was too cheesy and neatly tied up.

of the world laid to ruins aside from the nice houses at the end.The one thing that was missing was like in the original film was that of a atomic strike against them, okay so this was done in independence day but not one person mentioned it even being tried.

Same goes for Signs (super small text due to spoilerage ahead)
If you are advanced enough to build huge ships, with forcefields, invisibilty and all, travel between the stars for food etc etc why would you go to a planet that is 2/3 covered in the one thing that can kill you, a planet where that very same thing falls from the fucking sky on a daily basis?

worrying
thing is that it would take something like that to actually unite the world.Although there was some site I visited years back that had pyramid scale of what kinda wars would be fought over the coming years and in the past.It started off with communism at the bottom ,then terrorists above that then followed by alien invasion.
