You sit in the best seats you can find (most likely centre of the room - middle of the row).
The next people, forrin or no, also want best seats. You're in them, so they take the next best being one row back.

It's a logical conclusion. Being a Trek fan you should know that.

well yes I suppose so
thing is, the surround sound in our cinema is pants. so the middle seats are not as good as they should be.
