depends on the jacket/blazer
badly cut navy blue double breasted monstrosities with gold buttons are hideous, but well designed blazers are pretty much a fashion staple.

So in your world, the suit jacket shape must only be worn with trousers made from the same cloth as the jacket (aka a suit)?

(the look doesn't work if you are fat, though; it's a fitted thing)

Pretty much.
They look shit on 99% of people. The only people they do look good on are the people who'd quite frankly look good in anything.

I'm not fat and just being upset that I look like shit in one myself, I honestly think the people who dress like that are knobs.

They're hardly fashion staples either.

most collections (whether from Next or uber&overpricedfashionhouse)
usually have two or three blazers in (to be worn with dress/smart trousers/jeans and shirts as part of a 'going out' outfit)

not as much of a staple as shirts & trousers etc., obviously
