Srsly bothered rant about society and New Moon (alternatively title HUGE WANK FOR TEEN GIRLS)
Last night I was dragged along for the midnite premiere of New Moon. S'alright. It's mildly entertaining and my girlfriend really loves it. SO I went.
We were fortunate enough to have a friend purchase an ENTIRE THEATRE and sell the seats to older people because they did NOT want to hear screaming, seat moistening teen girls all throughout the movie. ALso, a good reason to go.
None of that is really my problem. My PROBLEM revealed itself halfway through the movie; via a friend of the GF's.
I don't know how much anyone here knows about the book, but there are supposed to be these teeny hunk-like scantilly clad Native Americans in it,
which there were but something happened that really bothered me.
Taylor Lautner is clearly dreamy to pretty much everyone and the afore-mentioned GF riend was drooling at the site of him because, as she put it "he was her type" but the other Indian boys weren't so cut and her displeasure at seeing these "not as gifted as the other" boys was apparent.
She yelled at the screen, calling them "sickly" and "flabby", but to me they seemed just fine, and MY exception to HER displeasure was apparent as well.
MY POINT, if you are still reading, is this: WHY, in today's society, is there SO MUCH emphasis to accept a woman for who she is and NOT what she looks like yet the same cannot be said the the opposite? It is CLEAR that women dote and fawn over Gerard Butler, Robert Pattison, et al. with NO or little regard for the fact that they are doing PRECISELY the thing that we, as men, are forbade from doing.
WHat would HAPPEN, if for example, MEN could proudly stand up and say "Oh... I LOVE (insert actress)'s ass" as we whooped and hollered at the screen? Sexist? Labeled in an instant, I believe.
