I don't think it's untraceable
but it's pretty hard to do so. Heard about it a few months back, my brother is a big fan (of bitcoins not the drugs trade)

Its centralised, so doesn't have the same checks and balances as a bank.
Which could be a good thing, in the current shaky finacial market.
