I think mine let me do what I wanted to do, as long as I put loads of effort in.
I had problems at school (dysphasia) but that wasn't really recognised back then so most of the teachers wrote me off as lazy and uninterested. But mum and dad used to be strict with me about my education, making me do exercises on top of my homework and sending me to a private tutor on Saturdays. At the time I thought they were being over the top but I can sort of see why they did it. The hospital finally said that it was my health rather than my attitude that was causing the problems.

I think my Dad wished I was better at craft and sport but I think that was just the world he grew up in rather than anything else.
