I’ve always wondered if cars in the US need whatever their equivalent of an MOT is
because I’ve seen some absolute sheds driving about over there which surely aren’t roadworthy

When I had a car in New Zealand, you needed to get a Warrant of Fitness every 6 months.
WOF is so much more fun to say than MOT.
