To celebrate the end of dry January I bought a bottle of cheap moscatel and downed it. Amazing what a month off alcohol does to your alcohol tolerance. Might do a sick in a bit.

Well yes, but a month ago I could have put away a litre of rum and nobody would have noticed.It's like when they say 'don't put your coat on before you go outside or you won't feel the benefit'.
If you drink alcohol before the crushing reality of the futility of everything and years of regret for poor choices that let you to your current unrewarding existence hits you then you don't get to enjoy the comforting emotional numbness and memory impairment that alcohol provides.
