By that album they were just a pop group
but previous to that they were kind of punk, at least kind of with that scene.

No, live they came pretty hardcore back in the day
definately kind of poppy but there was a snarl to them.

the acceptable face of punk
and not those nasty sex pistols-type punks
in retrospect - yes - nu-wave disco pop punk with a phil specter / chinnichapp / moroder leanings
