Right, that's enough of that now
I was having a conversation with a friend last night, we were trying to think of which moments in our lives were the ones that have influenced us the most since.
Whilst the death of my Mother is the event that has affected me the most, I think my decision to go to my friend's rather that a Uni presentation has also shaped me hugely, as it was when I finally realised I was truly sick of academia.
What events would you say have shaped your life the most?
Alt: If you could change them, would you?
Obviously, I can't really change my Mother killing herself over Green Day, but I could have gone to Uni. However, I can't say I would have gone to Uni to gain anything, or simply for the experience of Uni. I don't regret not going.

I think applying for and getting my job at Newcastle Uni was one of them
If I hadn't got the job, I'd have gone away to Uni somewhere. Instead I got 4 years apprenticeship and this directly lead onmto my job now (where I also met Mrs Cow, fact fans)
Alt:
I'd liked to have gone away to Uni, just for the lols really. I'll stick with what I have though

Chicken + lemon mayo sarnie, chipotle crisps and Cherry Coke

Odd.
Then again, for the first time in ages last night I ate something with mayo on, and enjoyed it. Mainly because I couldn't taste the mayo at all.

Well...
One day I decided to go to the cinema instead of the pub, for all I know I may have fallen down some steps, broken my neck, been paralyzed from the neck down, then have had to have been spoon fed and have my arse wiped for me for the rest of my life.
Fortunately I went to the cinema
Unfortunately the film was Hollow Man

Meeting Ms Foxtrot. Because otherwise I'd have stayed with my ex and moved to London to become a househusband at the age of 23. Without spending the rest of my 20s "letting off steam" I'd definitely have gone insane and become an axe murderer, or worse, met Al.

Bert; a potted history
Frequent poster Bert Monkeysex admitted to fucking his sister and had a meltdown (since referred to as a "Bertdown"), and was banned. He proceeded to pop up in various other guises, usually to have a go at Monty, all of which were quickly banned also. Most recently he has resurrected himself as feckless loser Quentin Oftiweak. Further Bertdowns awaited with baited breath

Yep
I was unimpressed enough with his repeatedly posting pics of me which I'd asked him not to, what really pissed me off was his refusal to admit he was wrong about it. I can't stand people who won't admit when they're wrong. Or "southerners" as they're known.

Yeah but it's the repetition isn't it
Doing it once is an oversight, doing it again is the effective equivalent of prefixing a statement with "no offence" and then assuming all will be fine. Plus his defence of his actions was pathetic. I'd have been happier if he hadn't tried to justify it

Bert is a 'character' (read: prick) from a while back
He used to be mildly entertaining at one time, then just turned into a humongous bellend, trying desperately to get banned. After he was banned, he started coming back under different names, as a result, we tend to treat all noobs as Bert. However, we're trying to rein it in now, as this board is getting slower and slower, so noobs (like yourself) are now welcomed without the initial yells of 'Fuck Off Bert' from everyone.

if i hadn't decided to go on the lash with my mate pete, and got him into a state where he was gurning so heroically that she came up to point and laugh, and if she hadn't been in the pub with a girl i knew and hadn't seen in a bit, i wouldn't be living in brighton, working where i am, in fact i'd probably still be working night shfts in a shithole it job praying for a coronary, just to alleviate the tedium.

Hmmm.
Moving away from home to go to college, then meeting the first wife and deciding not to go back home once studying had finished.
Getting into a job I hated and then spending the next 12 years trying to extricate myself from it, only to finally succeed in getting a job I loved right at the moment my marriage went tits up was fairly life affecting. Then meeting the missus about 18 months afterwards.
Taking voluntary redundancy last year - there have been times over the last ten months when I've thought "Why the fuck did I do that?" Fortunately, fingers crossed, things seem to be looking up.
Would I change any of it? No.
Alt alt: I'm not hungry.

According to my dad, moving when I was 5
Before that I was always out somewhere with friends, after that I spent more time indoors reading.
Alt: Dunno if I would, to be honest, that far back I'd be a totally different person now. It'd be like committing suicide.
AltAlt: Peri Peri Hoummus and chorizo and ham and chilli apple chutney sandwich.

It's not too bad
the chilli in the apple chutney is subtler than I was expecting. I've got a hot chilli pickle that really is quite poky but I wanted to try this one. Sample jars from The Pickle Man, I've still yet to try the "Old Nick" Scotch Bonnet Pickle.
It scares me.

my conception, I suspect.
After that, not being allowed to go to the local comp basically forced me to go to grammar school, without that I'd never have ended up where I am. Also not dying in a car crash aged 17 had a fairly profoud effect. First marriage also taught me a lot.
Alt: wouldn't change a fucking thing

This is something I like to consider when I am at my most maudlin
Rather than considering things I have done I prefer to dwell on the things I didn't do, then get really annoyed and then drive myself crazy imagining all the alternative versions of my life that could have been. It is a fruitless activity.
Alt: Depends how maudlin I am.

My dad is the most stubborn and selfish person on the planet.
Not to me and my brother, he's ace with us, but to my mum. Me and him are exactly alike and one day I came in and my mum was in floods of tears at how he'd had a go at her over the phone. Decided that was the day I'd actively try to be as little like him as possible.
