Siblings
Possibly the most complex and long lasting relationships we have are with our siblings. I have a brother who is three years older than me, and a sister who is a further four years older. We're not the sort of family who ring each other up at midnight on New Years Eve, Indeed we don't see each other a great deal other than birthdays and Christmas. My brother's self employed, hard working and hates any conflict. My sister is generally considred a caring person, though those of us a bit closer generally consider her to be more of a "keen to be seen as caring" person. She also tends to be controlling in a passive sort of way.

How do you get along with your siblings?
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 12:32, 207 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
Much better when they are nowhere near.
I love talking to them, as long as it's on the phone.

I found out at the weekend
that my brother once owned a monster truck. He bought it off ebay, but sold it due to lack of leg room

I love mine immensely
She's 7 years older than me, getting married next month, and I'm dragging the girlfriend along to meet all my family for the first time. Looking forward to it.

Oh and she's a b3tan who's had TWO front pages!

My god
this is going to be fun. You, me and my dad: all raging alcoholics, all fighting the urge to get pissed and cause a scene.
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 12:42, Reply)
It won't be fun if I get in the mix
You and your dad are kin, so you can get as pissed as you like. I will handle it with grace and charm.
I, on the other hand must have no more than a bottle over the WHOLE day and evening. And it must be spaced very spacily.

I have a sister
Who puts the mental in to judgemental. I really can't be bothered to have anything to do with her.

I have found with family (having not spoken to my mother for 16 years) that if you don't like them it isn't worth the effort of trying to get along with them.

Why do people expect you to put up with behaviour you wouldn't from friends/strangers just because of a genetic link?
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 12:39, Reply)
It isn't without complications at times
It's probable that my gf & I will be getting married next year.

I would like my dad to attend the wedding (we speak on the phone fairly regularly and get on pretty well) but I know he won't attend if my mother isn't invited and there is no fucking way she is coming.

I have 3
1 sister who I do not get on with - she isn't even coming to my wedding (her choice). she thinks she is the loveliest person who has ever lived; the rest of us find her deeply deeply irritating and superficial.
1 sister who will be my bridesmaid in 5.5 weeks time - we have the same sense of humour, but she is far prettier than me, and has many more friends!
1 brother who is the most laid back individual I've ever met - he's great. dad hates him, the rest of us think he's wonderful.

I think anyone who has boys knows they couldn't look after a furbie let alone a little sister
although some of them do go into big brother mode when the girl is a teenager, but by then it's annoying as it's "I'll disembowel anyone who touches my sister".
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 13:07, Reply)
2 older brothers
eldest one is about 7 years older than me and is simultaneously an old fart and really immature. he lives nearby and we get on ok. I'm mates with a bunch of his mates these days and he seem to bitch about them to me a lot, which I don't really approve of. he was a cunt to me when we were growing up and he claims not to remember.

the other one and I are quite similar. I'm more easy going though. he lives in london and is an architect.

is a right character. Lives with mum and dad, has zero income, refuses to go on dole, spends 100% of his time surfing the net or smoking.

Well now, let me see
My older brother is a violent, wife-beating, lying fuckwit.
My oldest younger half sister is an evil, manipulative, vindictive new Mum
My oldest younger half brother is an annoying little manchild
my oldest younger half sister by my real dad is an intelligent, if somewhat warped individual
the middle half sister by my real dad is an intelligent, if somewhat warped individual who was also really good in bed
the youngest seemed like quite a cute, clever little thing last time I saw her.
and my youngest half brother by my mum is pretty spoilt, but he's alright.

My brother's my best friend
I speak to him at least a couple of times a day. We’re very different in a lot of ways but completely identical in others. I’d be lost without him – a problem seeing as he is slowly drinking himself to death – it was hard enough when he moved out of London. My little sister I love dearly but don’t know her any where near as well – my brother and I were always a team, and she’s very much the ‘white sheep’ of the family, being in the police and remaining in the ‘polite society’ that my brother and I turned our backs on as teenagers.

I wouldn’t change either of them for the world, and I feel desperately sorry that my little girl is extremely unlikely to have a sibling to gang up on the parents with, and to share her knowledge of the world with as she gains it as I have

My sister is great and we get on really well, always have done, which is nice. I was raised the youngest of 6, now have a stepbrother too
As a group, we get on well. Individually, we argue a lot. They're all pretty awesome though for different reasons.

The best one is my sister, as Monty has put, she'll be known as the white sheep in our family. Married her first kiss, ridiculously intelligent, but with a sense of humour as dark as the rest of ours. She's also ace for going to Cambridge Uni, then leaving after a term because it was so boring. "The idea of a great night out is going to watch fudge being made, boring wankers" was the quote of the time.

I think the reason we get on as a group is because of the way we stuck together when we were younger. With them lot there, my Mum dying didn't seem as bad, because I was supported throughout. I don't know how I could have done it if I was an only child.

OK
Eldest Brother - Was famous in school for dangling someone over a bannister because he'd smacked someone and stolen their seats
Eldest Sister - Once saved eldest brother from a kicking by headbutting one lad, kneeing one in the nuts, and hitting another with her (massive) handbag
2nd Eldest Sister - Mentioned above. Once wrote an essay on her OU course after reading one book, got a 1st
2nd Eldest Brother - Bit of a waster, managed to grow up, and stopped bringing fat girls home. Once saved me from a serious kicking by taking most of it himself.
Step Brother - Was lazy, now finished Uni, has a wicked sense of humour.
3rd Eldest Brother - Spent months convincing his hugely shy girlfriend to give him a blowjob, as she'd never done it before. One drunken night she concedes, and not long after starting looks up to see him fast asleep. This then happened again 2 weeks later.
Me - Well, I'm just shit.

NOW both my brothers are brilliant
although they still pick on me all the time, eg they won't rest until one of them has managed to make me eat bacon "by mistake". they are 30 and 40 respectively, ffs.

THEN - god the younger one and i fought all the time as kids though, am surprised my parents didn't murder us both. then the older one would come to stay (technically he's my half brother) and we both worshipped the ground he walked on, whereas he couldn't wait to get rid of us. he tied me to a television once and sat back to see if it would fall on my head. doubtless you can guess whether it worked.

Hi, mind if I just jump in?
I have an older brother and a younger sister - the older brother is a sheriffs deputy and the sister is in college studying law. They're pretty cool, really.
I just have to make sure my stash is hidden when they come over.

My little sister is probably the person I'm closest to in the world.
Little perhaps being the wrong word though. She's 3 years younger, but at least three inches taller. We look nothing alike, and she gets mistaken for the older one which is highly depressing.

However, we have the same sense of humour, we never run out of things to talk about and we tell each other everything. Well, we used to. Sometimes she stops me now cos she doesn't want to be scarred by mental images.
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 13:58, Reply)
In a decade or two from now
you'll laugh in your sister's face about the fact she looks older than you!
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 14:00, Reply)
I'm looking forward to this so much.
She's so sweet and innocent though, even if she does look so much older. Nothing like me at all, bless her.
(, Tue 13 Jul 2010, 14:04, Reply)
I probably win on numbers
I have six siblings all younger than me. Don't really get on well with any of them however. We all tolerate each other just about.

The problem is my parents got more and more lenient as they had more kids
