Edit: I am going to give my son a rat (long desired) for his birthday on Saturday. Found the pet shop today too. They have a coyote and a hornbill and the employees walk around with rats on their shoulders. They have some hairless rats, but they look just so...nasty.

wenearly bought a rat for our daughters birthday but they recommend you house them in a glass tank at a minimum size of 4x3x2 or summat.Seeing as the rat cost £5 , the housing would have cost about £120 so we decided against it.

The cage always costs the most.Supposedly, one can give them the run of the house and provide a litter box. I always had rats and mice as pets and the cool thing is, you buy the terrarium once and they die off every couple of years. You just keep restocking.

yeahi see your point but for an initial outlay it seemed a bit much , we couldn't give it the run of the house because the dog would probably eat it
