Attempted to read Haruki Murakami in english. Oddly he opted to translate it himself. In one novel, Sputnik Sweetheart, the first half has extremely awkward language (but a rather nice story) and in the second half the language is OK (but the story is all over the place). Perhaps my brain adjusted to the language.
