It's yet another social networking site.
People 'pin' pics to a collection on a page, other people can 'like' them, and 're-pin' them on pages of their own. By the way, since you asked, Pinterest also reserves the 'right' to use anything you post on their site for commercial gain or in any other way they see fit, and they also claim copyright on it.

Yep.
My wife is part of a group that started using it to exchange ideas. They've pretty much all stopped using it now, since one of them read the terms of use properly then circulated the copyright sections to the rest of the group. It's still the flavour of the month over here though, and I noticed the BBC and the Grauniad have both run very positive recent articles about it.
