
The wierdness in spirited away was acceptable, because old japanese ghosts / gods are wierd as fuck, generally, but its still no excuse for grotesque grannies with giant heads and clitorises on their forehead.
I prefer the simpler, more charming tales, like kiki, which had no wierdness, bad guys, curses, fantasy realms, monsters or real peril.

Like the giant airships that kind of leaked through into Laputa.
That trailer for Whisper of the Heart on all the DVDs is extraordinary for the little references and cross-over of motifs to the other films, even though the film itself is a simple modern story of young relationships. A shame the director didn't get to do any more, on account of his premature promotion to full time daisy pusher-upperer.
