I thought they split up though? Was the only reason they did that recent video because converse gave them lots of money?

They disappeared up their own arses, accompanied by a ridiculously overlong Syrian bongo solo

Wasn't their finest moment, though seeing Mick Jones sashay about the stage as he was reported to have done would have been worth the price of admission.

They sort of put their friendship on hold at the end of 2010 and Damon's been pursuing a number of other things, namely the Dr Dee opera, rekindling Blur for another album (reportedly, but it seems to waver between 'yes we're doing it' and 'no we're not') plus Jamie's working on more things other than Gorillaz art. Also Zombie Flesh Eaters who did the G character animations went belly-up last year and Damon and Jamie changed Management.
Mostly though, it's because EMI didn't make as much money from 'Plastic Beach' as they'd hoped, but since they did fuckall marketing for it, I'm not surprised, even though it's a brilliant album. EMI canned the 'Rhinestone Eyes' animated video which would essentially have been the next chapter in the whole story, and it just never got made, and made 'Doncamatic' instead, which was great for Daley, but not for Gorillaz.
Gorillaz were essentially 'on hiatus' when the Converse deal was struck and they did the 'Do Ya Thing' release with Andre 3000 and James whathisface, but at the moment, until Damon and Jamie kiss and make up and want to work together again, it'll be a while before we see anything new from Gorillaz. The Converse gig wasn't worth much when you consider Damon was said to be worth $40million just this week, he's not short of a quid. G fans are all hanging out for the 'P Sides' of Plastic Beach, but no sign of such a thing at the moment.

Shame they didnt do music videos for all of plazzy beach, like daft punk did for that interstella film. I loved that

but animation is horrendously time consuming and exxy, hence them using CGI for more of the PB stuff, the dressing room vids, and the Converse thing, because once they've got the base forms programmed, everything else is just easy to add really. I like the traditional animation, but when time and money is a constraint, I'll take anything, these characters crack me up, although I couldn't care less for Noodle and Russel to be honest.
