They're made from mashed up fish with flavoring added.
I can't stand the things, but the other half loves them.

Hamburgers are called that because they (supposedly) originated in Hamburg, Germany.

I once tried cooking with crabsticks
in a pasta sauce. They unravelled and looked a bit like pale tagliatelle. Still tasted vaguely of fish.
