# are you saying that the death of the nurse is a direct consequence of this prank?

# The media certainly have made that assumption and I think it probably is heavily related.
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 15:44, archived)
# I'm confused...
is that a yes or a no?
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 15:45, archived)
# If it wasn't clear, I think the prank had some influence on the nurse's death.
However, I'm aware that my opinion in this case holds no particular weight.

# let's say that you are right...
that this prank DID influence her decision to end her life...

Do you think they deserve the backlash they have received?
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 15:51, archived)
# depends what the backlash actually is
the misreporting and opinion giving by the press makes the actual turn of events very hard to follow

# I refer to the legions of proletariat mouth breathers, threatening to kill them in the street on social media

# ahhh, media fuelled hate mobs, no, no one deserves them.
I thought you meant losing their job for an on air mistake or getting a few days paid leave.
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 16:00, archived)
# they shouldn't lose their jobs either - in my opinion...
if they were luckier, and someone without clear unchecked mental health problems answered the phone and this didn't end up being the spaz-fest it has become.. they'd probably have gotten a raise and this would have been looked back upon as a right proper jape!

# and anyone baying for their literal or metaphoric blood should really take a long hard look at themselves...
anything we do in our daily life, even if you're a thoroughly nice person,
could possibly cause someone with mental health problems to tip over the edge.

# I can see why they would be sacked for a prank gone wrong
the station needs to keep listeners on side and all that.
But I agree, it's no different to any other phone prank that goes right or wrong, all of which are mocking the person on the other end of the line, so in a way are just slightly cunty acts of bullying.
Some times bullying is funny and acceptable in the media, other times people remember it's a bit of a shit thing to do.

I'm guessing they'll get early retirement. They did what they were paid to do, opinion just shifted on whether it was funny or not.

# it does seem
to be getting funnier every day.

# There's still the question of permission to air the thing.
They might have actually broken the law.
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 16:08, archived)
# fair enough...
that's different... if there's a statute for it.

but, if she didn't die... the publicity would probably have put ratings up.
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 16:10, archived)
# Well, yeah, it's rather close to being manslaughter.
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 15:54, archived)
# I'm hoping this is an attempt to get a rise out of me
(, Mon 10 Dec 2012, 15:57, archived)
# I don't even know any more.
