# me and the wife split up for 12 months...it wasn't bitter
I carried on paying the mortgage for her and our 4 kids while I lived just round the corner.Then we got back together and four years later they sent us a bill for five grand...for the time I was away...even though I was still supporting and providing for them. :(

still together 12 years later :)

# I wouldn't at first...but then when we were trying to sell our house
they said they would apply to the court for the cash plus costs deducted from the sale.Even to the point of preventing the sale.(wasn't sure if they could or not)After lots of aggro decided to just pay it and move on.It would have just kept climbing otherwise.In hindsight I should have let them take me to court and offer them a fiver a month...after all I had a family to raise..judge may have thrown the claim out :)

they claimed they had the power to instigate bailiffs to recover items to cover the unpaid bill.This would have meant even taking the kids x boxes and video games etc.The most bizarre thing I'd heard from an organisation designed to help support families.They were ready to now penalise us...."you couldn't make it up"..haha.....what a fiasco.God knows what it's like today.

but to answer -it would have (and did) just go back to them.(not to my wife and kids)
