# So it's my mate Paulie's 50th birthday, and I bought him a copy of GTA 5. Unfortunately I have Gimp and no artistic skills whatsoever.
Does anyone know of a way to convert his pic to a more posterised version that will match the rest of the front of the box?

Lo res version:

And no, you're not my Potatoshop bitches, I was just hoping for pointers...

# I have never used Gimp, so cannot say what options might work.
With Photoshop, it'd probably be a case of messing with selective colour, adding a bit of posterization and finishing with the stroke option.

# ah yes, the finishing with the stroke option!

# gimp has a 'cartoon' filter

which is a good starting point

# Thanks, I tried that but the source pic doesn't have enough contrast to make it effective, and when I tried to up the contrast the skin tones look awful.
I suspect I'm going to have to print it out and go over the picture highlights in pen then scan it back again!

# that sounds like an 'artistic skill'

# There's a few tutorials online
Just do a google search for 'cartoon a photo in Gimp'

# Thanks. I'd tried that, but you get an awful lot of black speckles!
Best I did was with smudge to even out the blocks, reduced colour palette and then posterized it. Still needed a bit more touching up though (but don't we all...)
