Should the police make exceptions whenever a group feels really strongly about something?

which targets protesters, travellers and annoying people, amongst others.
If you were referring to the vigil and the police's response, well, that's another kettling of fish.

and the way that MPs fell over themselves to blame everything on the Met. If they'd allowed everything to carry on without intervening and there was a massive surge in London cases, who would have got the blame?
"We'll change the national restrictions and guidance every 5 seconds until no-one knows what the hell they're doing, either the public or those put out there to keep law and order. We won't ever give them anything concrete to work within, insisting that everything should be proportionate and down to their own interpretation, and then whenever the public decide they've overstepped the mark we won't get any of the blame."

It's like with us GPs. Not all of us are mass murderers but Shipman proved that we could be so they had to make us do hundreds of hours of appraisals and revalidation since then to make sure we don't have time to go round murdering people any more.

Seems fucking weird to me that people are siding against these women. I guess some round here are being edgy and ironic, but fucking hell.

Sarah Everard's suspected murderer is a man who just happens to be a policeman in his day job. He didn't do the murder as part of his employment. Wording it that way draws an obvious comparison with black people regularly dying by the hand of US law enforcement. I don't recall seeing headlines in the UK about women frequently getting killed as a direct result of police action.
And who on here is "siding against" the women?

For instance, right now I can't grasp how sending the R number right back up, indirectly causing a few thousand extra deaths and extending the lockdown period even further is a good show of solidarity with others who don't feel safe walking home alone at night. But I know that viewing things in this way makes me a terrible person.

Are you getting upset by the wording or framing of reality, rather than being upset with the inequality inherent in the system? Why did you bring race and my name into this? Are you okay?

May I assume you're against holding elections during a pandemic too?
Still curious as to why you brought race and my name into this discussion. Still seems like you're far from okay. Seems like you're being a bit of a virtue signalling culture warrior looking for an SJW punching bag, which is quite sad.

I dunno if I make it personal, because I'm quite oblivious to a lot of subtext, and I'm hopeless at keeping track of who anyone actually is, or remembering the frank and lively conversations we might have had.

I think you are playing the role of Culture Warrior, and for that you need to conjure a foil, the Social Justice Warrior.
To signal the virtues you hold dear, you need to punch down against the arguments made by your weak enemy, who is simultaneously powerful because he represents the dominant liberal narrative you are rebelling against, with its disgusting obsession with politeness, equality and fairness.
