I've asked Wil to look into what's going on

Conspiracy theories that it's a plot to close /talk are nonsense btw - if we wanted to close it we'd just close it.

The exciting truth is that we've recently upgraded the version of PHP we run the site on and it's produced random problems which we're ironing out as we spot them.
