I have an Australian friend who left a message on my answerphone in the early 00's:
"Hi, just to let you know I've got a job in Scotland! It's in a place called 'Kirk-Cud-Brite', it's near 'Dumb-fries'." I made sure to correct him on the pronunciation of both places before he went there.
Years later I met up with him in Canberra, and he said "I had a couple of Scottish customers here last week. I told them I'd worked in Kirkcudbright, and they didn't believe me!"

Hehe
Many Scottish place names are cruel if you've not heard a local pronounce the name. Decades here & I still get the occasional surprise.
