well, they're lovely and really cool, yes.but it's not the most sensible design is it? to hover, they have to beat their wings stupidly fast, and they don't sit on the leaves of the flowers they're feeding from. so, that rapid beating and hovering must use a lot of energy, but they're so small, that they can't contain a lot of nectar, so they run out quickly. so they'll have to be constantly whizzing back and forth and using even more energy.
of course, they seem to exist quite happily so i'm probably wrong.
