making light of children being gunned down
just isn't funny for me.

we live in a nanny state/culture
where everyone's wrapped up in cotton wool and told what's good/bad for them. Sometimes you need reminding that it's not all flowers and kittens, the world's a nasty place and shit happens

it is indeed
that's why i come here, for a bit of frivolous nonsense as an antidote to all that. if i want to be reminded then i'll watch the news.

I actually agree with you a bit
frivilous nonsense is great, so's a shock to the system

was that your intention then?
a shock to the system? or just a cheap laugh?
don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to start an argument (discussion, maybe), but it's just not the sort of thing i'm used to seeing from you.

maybes I just sometimes like to test the board's limits
and there's no doubt some folks have grinned inwardly at stuff like this, you're right in that I usually do fluffier stuff, but last week I got a f.p. for a pic showing christ on the old cross being taken down by a guy(me) with a chainsaw, some people thought that in bad taste, so where's the edge?

fair nuff
we all have our own edges, but you can usually make a good guess as to where the majority's lie. personally i just don't see the need though, i wouldn't do a shop like that any more than i would the wtc or the vietnamese kid. just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

you are a man entitled to his own opinions
and if you choose to live by your sensibilities you should be applauded, it's not my intention to get a cheap laugh or to offend but to get people thinking

I think you probably have
a fair point - that's not for everybody.
But not everyone has the same radar as you - we can see humour in things that are just not funny to most people.

we are
aren't we? it's thrown up an interesting little discussion, after all.

you're right
I grew up in Belfast at the height of the "troubles", within 20 mins of a major disaster somebody would've made a joke about it, maybe it's therapy?

I was going to
say something about Princess Di jokes etc, which is the same.
I've seen lots of WTC gags on here, and even one or two Belsen / holocaust ones. Those fall into the same category, but we got over it.
If it was all day every day, maybe it would be a bit much. It isn't, obviously we do have enough self restraint to make this place what it is.
