Stupid police tricks in the news:

Marriner, who was a sergeant based at Ipswich, became involved with members of the Christian Brethren, a conservative religious group with strict rules which include not watching television or movies.

The court heard that over 18 years he had members of the group ranging from 12 through to their early 20s indulge in sexual perversion on the pretext of them being operatives in an undercover investigation to smash a paedophile ring.

Marriner's recruiting procedures involved identification by taking naked photos, taking samples of pubic hair, blood and urine and providing detailed questionnaires which canvassed their sex lives.

At one stage one woman sustained a needle stick injury and Marriner told her she had contracted a sexually transmitted disease which needed tests including having her masturbate so that a vaginal swab could be taken at climax.
