its via a BT line, heck even BT are offering 1meg adsl packages now (it might still be the test package tho, but its on offer)

those are not trials.

But they recently started offering 1mb and 2mb at 50:1 contention (meaning you could easily upgrade from regular 512 to 1mb without a lot of hassle) - but it's still in trial (all orders must be placed manually, the automated system is still in development).
