# who'se got a secure server ...
... and could collect money for a b3ta appeal? And wouldn't run off with it? (I'd love to use amazon, but you need a US credit card... and I can't ever get paypal to work.)

# Do you think it'll be ok ...
... if I simply ask for cheques to be sent to my address via the newsletter?
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 8:52, archived)
# well

# Do you really
want to give out your address like that?
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 8:56, archived)

# why not..
get yourself a P.O. Box
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:01, archived)
# me pay for woo & yay
How about the irony of using an old fashioned PO Box number for cheques? For the amount of woo and yays you've given me, you'd get a fiver in return.

# how much needs to
be raised?
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:05, archived)
# 1 Million quid
er... 2 or 3k should but enough bandwidth for a year.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:07, archived)
# I opened a fresserve
£13-99/month AnyTime account yesterday. It has only 30 MB storage but unlimited bandwidth according to their help.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:15, archived)
# Yes, but
can you use PHP on it?
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:17, archived)
# php and mysql
this is a heavy databased site, and shifts comparable bandwidth to fhm.com

# Bloody hell - really?
There's fewer undressed laydeez on here too

# out of interest
have you tried approaching specific companies regarding banner ads?

Pay per click through ones are pointless, but you have a specific audience, which you'd have thought some companies would be willing to pay to reach.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:18, archived)
# No!
Keep B3ta banner free! I'm prepared to donate to keep it that way, too!
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:24, archived)
# Try commission junction
www.cj.com

Are quite good for targetted ads, but you need a lot of hits to get any kind of return. Luckilly, b3ta has just that.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:25, archived)
# just out of interest
how much bandwidth does the site use per month? (or per year)
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:23, archived)
# I CAN GET SECURE SPACE!!
i have access to secure servers (thats the beauty of working for a hosting company!)

However, how are you gonna process the credit card numbers once you have them?

# Could we have a charidee party
thing instead?

(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:20, archived)
# Oh yes
I want to see if b3tans can move as well as their GIFs. 1..2..3..4..sashay!

(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:23, archived)
# err... I know how to organise good websites ...
... not parties. Anyway, the problem with that is (um, and I do speak from experience) that you charge £5 on the door, and make £10-£50 per head for the people who run the bar.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:25, archived)
# Well
it should be done because its a good idea, even if it doesn't really help keep B3ta going all that much...
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:30, archived)
# I'm sure Nacho could run it at snakemountain
and we could all drink cans of stella.

She'd be delighted to see us all I'm sure.

AW how big is your garden?
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:41, archived)
# Charidee party!
Yeah!
Failing that, I'd send a cheque. How much, and who to?
If 300 of us chip in a tenner each, we're away.. and I'd pay my tenner to keep this place going, oh yes.
(, Fri 15 Mar 2002, 9:30, archived)
# exactly.
that's the attitude!
