except I did it in photoshop so its not really vector. bugger.

freehand or illustrator. Once they're made though its not hard to redo as vector, just a matter of tracing which I am far too lazy to bother with.

Instead of one that's bitmap/pixel based.
Although most pixel based progs can produce shitty attempts at vectors it would seem.

favourite would seem to be Illustrator but having said that Photoshop can manage good results once you understand the bezier pen tool. I believe firewoks can do them and so can paint shop pro ( though I've never tried ).
One of the lesser known but best at it is Xara X1 and the industry accepted standard tool for it is Corel Draw.
Edit:/ oh and I early forgot to say that Julian Opie is a no talent hoodwinking twat.

is a free SVG program that I've just downloaded to see how it handles.

I used it for about 10 mins on linux (available for windows and mac also) and it`s not bad, but too much for my small brain

Use any other program and you will get cancer
of the clicky finger.

but can you add layers and trace with flash? Interesting if you can as I have Macromedia Studio 8 sat here doing nothing.

tracing is a bit... odd, unless you just do freehand tracing
have a bash with it and see how it goes

you can add layers and trace but I don't recomend it for purely making still images. If you got studio then I assume freehand came with it, in which case I'd use that.

although it's easy to get. I have Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, Fireworks, Contribute, and FlashPaper in Studio 8.

edit: seems interesting, but it won`t let me see any of the examples since flash player 7 (mx2004 version) isn`t bloody good enough, and out of principle they can fuck off :)

I was gay and bought studio 2004mx - was considering quitting the job and freelancing doing web sites and back end programming and stuff, but in the end I stuck with working for THE MAN

the Man Utd match goes off ( because I am streaming it from ESPN China for my dad ) you may get me on MSN and I'll send you Flash8 pro and a serial number via MSN if you like. 110MB @ 55Kb/s max.
Edit:/ doh what am I saying? Just download the trial yourself and I'll give you a serial number, they have more bandwidth than me.

ta for the offer, but I`ll stick with the legit copy so I can e-mail Macromedia regularly and tell them that their software is flakey shite

I buy all my software legit mainly for the support but I am also an old fashioned socialist and believe in sharing what I have with others if they can't afford them or think that food is more important. I make no apologies for this and will probably get done again ( was fined in 1999 for distributing abandonware, wankers don't care these days )

and I see little difference, except that it
allows you to trace jpg and gifs without
converting the to bmps.

but they may be in mx2004 ... as you may have seen, I`m not a flash expert :)
dreamweaver is quite handy though, so for the cost of the two apps, it was cheaper just to buy the studio (he keeps telling himself to justify the bloody price)

it is great for quick and dirty drawing.
Then you can export it as a png and add
blur effects or whatever in photoshop.
If you're a purist, I suppose Illustrator
or FreeHand is better.
