# Evnin' all!

Just made a new title logo for my website...
The face is off an accordian playing-gange smoking-tophat wearing-blunderbus toting-gypsy friend of mine.
Attractive or just put everyone off?

I read your comments about the Google pre-fetch thing, it made me think (actually THINK) and I wrote to them, basically about the adsense scheme they run. I was interested to know whether advertizers could be charged for a pre-fetched page without anyone actually ever seeing it. I just got the reply:

"Thanks for your interest in AdSense and dWords. Please note that we don't execute the javascript utilized by our ads with the prefetching capability of Firefox, therefore an AdWords advertiser will not end up paying if their site was prefetched in the manner described."

Of course that doesn't change the point you made, which is that it potentially inflates their page view totals. I personally don't think that's a very big issue though... I think they sell mainly on strength of their name and rep, not their numbers.

# isn't that how all
corporate companies operate these days?

# definitely, but they don`t all have a motto along the lines of "don`t be evil"
(, Fri 27 Jan 2006, 22:41, archived)
# don't be evil
even though we're soon to be the biggest advertising merchants on the planet!

Even though they rock technically, there's still some cnut doing the figures, helping them with the "Future Strategy" and guiding them towards the darkside.

Outcome: All the good guys will leave and something better will grow from that, until the bankers catch up and the evil creeps back in once more..

# aye
suppose it could be worse.. I just have a problem with people pushing stuff at me - it`s no better than spam e-mail
(, Fri 27 Jan 2006, 22:59, archived)
# It could be a lot worse,
this morning I read a recent UN report from Darfur and one from Uganda.

It's a lot worse than people trying to sell you shit for sure.

# true
good point well made

I never really noticed it before I started poking around with squid last night, but I`m not happy they`re forcing stuff down the browser without asking (much like when I sit and make sure I block as many trackers as possible)

some git could easily set up a few google bombs and fire megs of crap down the line, plus you`re still getting picked up in the #1 match`s server logs as a referral

after all this China stuff, I think google isn`t quite the "ethical" company they like to think

/rant rant rant ;)
