Erm, not really my area, but...What do you mean by rebuild? Hardware or software? Have you checked under the device manager, to see if there's any warning triangles under 'Sound, video and game controllers'. Also, try googling on the exact error message you get.

Cheers mate.I'll do some investigating...but basically the computer refuses to believe there is a sound card there. It also refuses to read the driver disc for said sound card :/

Hmmmmm.I'm assuming it'll be an integrated soundcard. Might be worth seeing if there are any driver updates for the particular make of motherboard you have, if you can track down the manufacturer's website...
