i was in a pub in ireland quite a few years ago
and i got asked for a donation to 'the cause', being a bit tiddled i asked what charity it was for and when the reply 'it's for the cause' came back i looked blankly at them and said 'nah, it's alright'.
my friend then told me what 'the cause' was.
