it was preceded by the best opening scene to a Bond film ever :-)
It was even in Black and White, which makes it arty, so it has to be good.

as opposed to people watching it, "cos it's bond", personally i think it was one of the best bonds i've ever seen, he is brilliant in the film, and there's none of the over the top cliches. 10 minute car chase? nope, magic laser glass breaking watch ring gun hammer? no way, lot's of sauve? yes.
/end rant
/sorry i'm all stressed cos of exams, but it is a great film.

but in my opinion it wasn't a Bond film. Bond films were always full of stupid impossible mental gadgets, silly situations and incredibly hot women, So you could just sit back and not have to use your brain :)

they became more and more like that.
From Russia With Love is possibly the best because of relatively little silly gadgets etc :-)
Goldfinger had a good mix to be honest.
I haven't read the books, but to be honest, Casino Royale was more my idea of Bond.

Bond has always been silly, but at least with Bonds like Connery they could be cold and calculating as well as smarmy and cocky... you gotta have the action scenes but I like a bit of a build up and tension, and some cutting dialogue on the way.
I dunno, I really couldn't stand the Brosnan Bonds but I understand I'm in a minority there.
