# FFS, the 3DO (if anyone remembers that)
was based around the same concept. Anyone could make the machine but it was supposed to standardize the industry. Turns out it was shite and everyone else knew they could do better.

# it was probably a decent machine
but breaking in a new platform takes some serious effort and pennies

look how much microsoft had to piss away cash to get the momentum going

# it sold really well actually
but the company that made the technology wanted to update it rather a lot, meaning consumers had to buy ad dons if they wanted to play the latest games, which is just as bad as buying another system

# sold well compared to what
I thought after the initial excitement folks realised they couldn't give a crap and by then the pc was really picking up for games

# sold well for the piece of shit it was

# The 3DO
was conceived by Trip Hawkins, co-founder of EA.

So EA are just doing what they normally do, repeating themselves.

# 3DO was the bollocks!
I loved mine, it was the betamax of consoles. A superior machine, but playstation won on volume of games released.
(and don't even THINK of arguing with my sepia-toned memories!)
