I've managed to crack a lot of the abbreviations, but 'ftw' has me stumped. I'm worried the 'TW' stands for 'thread waste'.

It's worse in science, though - all acronyms have to spell out something no matter how lame.
My job is to run the SQUID - Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (or a bloody strong magnet that gets really cold).

Like a huge, freezing fountain. that was fun, especially when the still-running electronics were encased in ice. Quite dodgy trying to dry it up with all that voltage running...
